The humble hen party doesn’t always have to be a weekend of excessive drinking and the subsequent hangover, nor does it need to be a tame affair. In fact, you can make your **hen do in London** as luxurious or as sophisticated as you want.
What could you do to make your hen weekend a sophisticated and luxurious experience then? Take a look at the three suggestions I have for you below for some **hen do ideas** and inspiration.
Afternoon Tea at a luxury hotel
If WKDs and Sambucas aren’t your scene then perhaps afternoon tea would be right up your street instead? One of the best places to go for a spot of afternoon tea has to be the incredible Palm Court, an awe-inspiring art deco lounge that is often touted as the most prestigious afternoon tea lounge in London. It’s hard not to get taken away into another world if you visit Palm Court, and the selection of tea available is wide and varied. Being big tea drinkers in the office, we were practically salivating at the number of different teas on offer. Although I am an Earl Grey man through and through the Moroccan Mint Tea sounds amazing.
A nice little touch with the afternoon tea here at Palm Court is the short history of afternoon tea that can be found on their menus. Delightful.
Guaranteed to make anyone feel a like a million dollars, spa treatments are the quintessential aspect of a nice, relaxing hen weekend. The Grange at St. Pauls offers fantastic facilities, including five treatment rooms and an 18m swimming pool. Go for the manicure package and you’ll also receive a glass of champagne, as well as strawberries, chocolate and cream. The right package will also allow you full use of the spa’s facilities, including the aforementioned swimming pool, as well as a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi and a sun therapy room. There is no better way to relax and unwind, and to prepare for an evening on the tiles of the Big Smoke itself. However, as we’re looking at other ways to enjoy a hen party then we won’t want to be heading to a club in the centre of the capital, instead you can perhaps do something a little more cultured.
Going to the theatre is just one of the many, cultured things you could do in London. The West End has a marvellous selection of theatres, hosting all manner of well known and loved productions and some of the newer stage shows to come to the capital. Some of the more familiar and well known theatres include the Palladium, which is currently hosting a production of Scrooge: The Musical following an 18 month stint for The Wizard of Oz.
There is also the Adelphi theatre, a grade two listed building that features a more varied list of past productions, often specialising in comedy and musical theatre. The musical production of The Bodyguard, featuring the music of the late Whitney Houston is currently being performed at the Adelphi.
Hey Majesty’s Theatre in Haymarket is well known for hosting The Phantom of the Opera, which is currently the second longest running musical theatre production in the West End after opening in 1986, second only to Les Miserables which started its run in 1985. However, Phantom is the most successful and highest grossing entertainment event of all time, with over 130 million people having seen it by 2011. The longest running theatre production in the West End is the Agatha Christie murder mystery The Mousetrap.
Monty Python fans can rejoice though, as The Playhouse has just started a run of its musical comedy Spamalot, replacing Dreamboats and Petticoats which had finished its second West End stint back in August this year. The Playhouse holds fewer at full capacity than most West End theatres but that in itself is a unique selling point for attending musicals and productions there. The smaller capacity allows the crowd a more intimate experience, and for some people this can be a deal breaker.
There are plenty more things that you can do for your last night of freedom, and I hope that the suggestions I have made can get your brain working and get you thinking what else you could do to make your hen do in London a luxurious, sophisticated and above all memorable experience.
