For those of you who work in offices, we all know how easy it is to get stuck into a project or a piece of work and not move for hours. However, despite the workload, we all need to make a conscious effort to get that blood pumping and keep the circulation going. The good news is that there are several exercises that we can do during the working day and whilst we’re sat at our desks, which will help improve our concentration – we’ve provided our top five favourite exercises to do whilst at work for your enjoyment.
Take the stairs
It’s all too easy to use the lift when you’re stuck on a higher floor, but why not take the stairs when you next make your way to the toilet or exit or enter the building? Excellent for cardio and toning, adding the stairs into your daily routine at work will make all the difference, and will be sure to get that heart pumping! If you want to make it extra challenging, then why not take two stairs at once? Feel that stretch in your legs!
This is one you can do whilst you’re sat at your desk, simply raise one of yours legs and extend out, hold for 5-10 seconds and bring it back down, but don’t let your foot actually touch the floor. Do this five times, before changing leg. A great exercise that will stretch out your legs and hamstrings, this exercise can be done with ease whilst you work!
The Desk Squat
Start this one by pushing the desk chair aside and standing with your feet together. Bend your knees slightly so the thighs are almost parallel to the ground, as if sitting in a chair. As you bend, raise your arms straight up or towards the computer screen. Keep your knees together and aligned. Hold this for 15 seconds and then release. Repeat this between 4-6 times.
Take a stroll
There’s never been a better excuse to take a lunch time stroll, so why not incorporate one into your working day? Bring a packed lunch in on the day that you intend to walk and you’ll end up saving a pretty penny too! It’s the perfect way to escape the office, breathe deeply and inhale the fresh air outside.
This is one for when you’re sitting at your desk and is super easy! All you have to do is tap your toes as fast as you can against the floor. Start off with your left foot and do this as quick as you can for thirty seconds, before switching to the right foot and repeating. Try this for three reps per foot.
