As the year 2020 draws to a close, many people will be pleased to see the back of such an uncertain and strange time. And as tempting as it is to have an early night and sleep through the last few hours of 2020, we’d strongly advise you not to – there’s an abundance of brilliant activities and ideas out there for a virtual New Year’s Eve, all of which enable you to stay connected and have some fun with friends and family from the comfort and safety of your own home.

Of course, we’d prefer to see our friends and loved ones in person and bid farewell to the end of the year together, but for the time being, we reckon this is the next best thing – who’d have thought that staying in is the new going out?

We’ve gathered up some of our favourite ideas below to help inspire your virtual NYE celebrations, some of which are available products which can be purchased through Fizzbox! If you’ve found an online experience that you’d like to find out more about, simply click the link and send an enquiry through to the provider, who will get in touch with you to provide availability for your chosen activity. So what are you waiting for? Send an enquiry through now to avoid any New Year’s Eve FOMO!

Quiz Night

There’s nothing quite like a virtual quiz night on Zoom with your family or friends, and we think that it’s a brilliant way to see off the end of what’s been an (ahem) eventful year. It’s fun, competitive (in a friendly kind of way!) and is something that everyone can get involved in!

Include some drinks and nibbles and you’ll have your night sorted! You could even get players to pool some money together as a prize for the winner, or your elected quizmaster could use the money to purchase a prize for the winner. If you’re feeling like finishing or starting the year off with a good deed, you could donate the money to a charity of the winner’s choice.

Alternatively, you could opt for a comedian to run your NYE quiz night, like this brilliant experience with Stephen Grant from Funny That Comedy; this way, no one in your group needs to be elected the quiz master and will have to miss out on all the fun! There’s also a brilliant anti-cheat system that’s been built into this quiz system, which means there’s no chance for anyone to get googling on their phones. This live quiz activity is ideal for those seeking a more professional experience for their evening.

Cocktails, Snacks and Games

This is a nice easy one that’s great for everyone – a simple catch up online using one of the many video calling apps with some tasty drinks (we choose cocktails) and some yummy snacks. Whether you want things to be relaxed with some chatting amongst friends or whether you want to turn things up a notch with some hilarious party games (drinking games included) then this is the perfect choice for you and your buds. Best of all, it won’t cost a penny – you’ll just need to provide your own drinks and snacks, which is easily done!

As far as games go, there’s nothing like a bit of ‘Never Have I ever’, Pictionary, or ‘Two Truths and One Lie’ to get the ball rolling – all of which can be easily played online via Zoom. We’re sure there’s plenty of great games out there that you and your team will love, and if you can’t think of any, then Google will be sure to know some!

Wine and Cheese Tasting

Like the idea of being a wine and cheese connoisseur for the night? Then why not round up some like-minded friends and enjoy an evening of good food and drink over Zoom? As a group, you’ll decide on a particular cheese and wine selection that can be purchased from a specific supermarket that you’ll all have access to (Make sure to choose mini wines to make this activity as affordable as possible!).

To make it easy, each person (or couple if you’re doing it in twos) will suggest one cheese and one wine for the activity. It’s then up to that individual or couple to do a bit of research into the origins of their suggested cheese and wine and present to the rest of the group on the night. You could even create your very own playlist on Spotify that everyone in your group will have access to and will be able to play – we’re thinking some smooth jazz!

Virtual Magician Performance

There’s a variety of Virtual Magicians out there, but we’d recommend none other than the fantastic Paul Fowler to provide the entertainment for your New Year’s Eve virtual celebration. It’s the perfect way to inject a little magic into your evening and round off the events of 2020!

Wherever your guests are in the world, they’ll be able to join in the fun with your group as Paul performs a dazzling show that will be sure to leave everyone thinking ‘How did he do that?’. What’s more, you can even arrange for some of your guests to take part in some of the tricks, providing an unforgettable, interactive experience.

Paul has performed all across the world from The UK to New Zealand via platforms such as Zoom, MS Teams and Skype! This show is ideal for guests of all ages and will be sure to end the year 2020 the right way!

Casino Experience

Bring all the fun of a real-life casino experience to your screen on New Year’s Eve with one of these virtual casino experiences. Ideal for groups of 5 up to 250, you’ll be able to enjoy a variety of private games rooms in your very own breakout rooms, strictly for your group. Choose from Roulette, Texas Hold Em’ Poker, Blackjack and plenty more games with these excellent sessions that can last for either one or two hours.

You can even add that personal touch to your casino experience with custom backgrounds using virtual green screens. The casino team can also customise the table with personalised player name tags or add a logo or image of your choice! There's also a cross-table leaderboard, allowing for individual and team winners. Prizes can be given out for this.

Race Day

Unsure how to spend your New Year’s Eve and fancy a flutter? Then look no further than this brilliant virtual race event available to book at Fizzbox via Fun Casino Events - It’s the perfect way to enjoy a bit of fun with your friends from the safety and comfort of your living room as you celebrate the end of 2020!

The experience can last for a choice of either one or two hours, during which time you’ll be pushed to the edge of your seats as you cheer on your chosen horse! Ideal for groups of between 5-150 guests.

Murder Mystery

Fancy yourself as a budding detective? Then how about setting up a virtual murder mystery night for you and your friends? With this brilliant virtual activity by Blackwatch Entertainment, professional actors will host the experience online and it’ll be up to you and your group to unravel the clues and hints to discover who the killer is – there will be a few lines for each player to read out, but don’t worry, this won’t be anything too heavy! After the big reveal, the actors will bid you farewell and you’ll be left to chat with your group.

Worldwide Landmarks

What if we said you could bring in the New Year in some of the biggest and glitziest cities across the globe without even having to leave the comfort of your home? Well this year, you can do just that simply by sitting behind your screens and watching live webcam shows – just make sure you’ve worked out your time zones correctly! If you’re after a particular city that’s halfway across the globe, then you’ll be bringing in the new year earlier or later depending on your location and if you want to watch it live!

Of course, if you’re into a traditional celebration, be sure to turn the telly on just before 12am and join in the fun of the countdown live from Central London – just expect not to see the usual crowds of people at Embankment!
