Move over whiskey, Scotland is not just renowned for its scotch, it’s a master at making gin as well. The country distils over 70 per cent of the UK’s gin, including some of the most popular brands, such as Tanqueray and Gordon’s (James Bond’s favourite!). So, when you’re next in Edinburgh celebrating a special occasion, why not try your hand at a gin masterclass?
While supping a welcome G&T you’ll be given the run down on how gin is made and how it came to be known as Mother’s Ruin. You’ll then get to sample different brands and varieties.
Once you’ve done your ‘research’ and established the essential gin facts and flavours, bar turns laboratory and you’ll get to experiment with different botanicals and mixers. See if you can best the pros by crafting the perfect gin cocktail. Will it be dry and stiff like a negroni or is a Singapore Sling more your thing? There’s only one way to find out!
